Adventure seekers have rapid access to challenging
environments due to accessibility and increasing media focus on adventure. Travel planning and medical pre-selection for health used to be the rule for such activities but we are seeing increasing requests from our patients and the general public seeking medically sound guidance to assist, advise and develop individualized plans to enable people to minimize the medical, physiologic and environmental hazards of exposure to challenging
environment.

This application is intended to provide you with convenient ready access, on your handheld device, to a focused body of comprehensive medical information from multiple different specialties, that address a variety of challenging
environments. Our application is authored by acclaimed international experts in their respective fields.

The application provides rich features, such as:

- full-length text, but also condensed views for easier overview of the
content
- in app specialized calculators
- rich and original illustrations, artwork and video
- guidance on the management of specific medical problems that can occur in different environments
- management of pre-existing medical problems
- identification of potential risks in certain activities and reasonable ways how to decrease those risks

We have organized this app by major environmental stressors, common medical conditions and special challenges / topics. Our goal is primarily practical utility of the information we provide and hence discussions about hypothetical pathophysiology may not be covered unless of practical relevance. Each chapter will have a
limited list of key references for the user. The robust search engine within this app provides the user with the ability to easily query a variety of topics, based on the activity planned.

This application is ideally suited to be a helpful reference manual for the primary care clinician, but will be equally useful to specialists, trainees and also the medically interested public.

The editorial team at Mayo Clinic is dedicated to keep this resource and reference updated with addition of new content over time.
